Solo/Single travel is becoming popular especially among women. Some of the reasons that women are traveling solo more is due to work, they have more income, divorce, death of a life partner, they couldn't find a suitable travel partner, they experienced a life changing event, or they want a new lease on life.
Some of the types of travel that interests the solo/single traveler are escorted tours, destination spas & resorts, wellness retreats, and cruises. Many years ago, all the before mentioned types of travel, the single traveler had to pay a heavy single supplement there was no getting around that. Single supplements are still charged today but, there is a light at the end of the tunnel for the solo travel. Some tour operators have reduced the single supplement for the solo travel or waived it on some of their tours on certain departure dates. Many destination spas & resorts waive their single supplements certain times of the year.
Today many cruise lines will reduce their single supplement, or they will waive them completely on some select sailings. Some of the premium cruise lines have studio staterooms on their newer cruise ships, and they now offer a solo stateroom category.
Some of the perks of traveling solo are that you get the chance to meet more people than you would when traveling with a friend or partner. Some of the cruise lines host a meet and greet onboard ship during the cruise. No, this meet and greet isn't like the type of meet and greet held on single cruises. If you attend, you may get a chance to meet the captain. You do get a chance to meet the cruise director, and the crew who, will be looking out for you for the rest of the cruise. These crew members make sure that you are enjoying yourself.
